Why make Bath your next recruitment destination?

Mention the Somerset city of Bath to most people, and they will immediately picture the naturally occurring hot springs of its historic Roman Baths. However, that should not disguise the strong appeal of the city to those recruiting staff, as much as for those being recruited. As a picturesque, cultural and highly desirable place to live, Bath has long attracted organisations and businesses in such fields as education, health, tourism, leisure, construction and manufacturing - with Webrecruit (http://www.webrecruit.co.uk) bringing many Bath recruiters and candidates together.

As a deeply historic and cultural city, Bath attracts millions of tourists and visitors a year, sustaining many jobs in the area's attractions, hotels and bed and breakfasts. Arts and humanities graduates may compete for roles at the likes of the Bath Theatre Royal, Victoria Art Gallery, Holburne Museum of Art, Bath Postal Museum and Jane Austen Centre - to say nothing of the many nearby antique shops and commercial galleries. Visitors are attracted to these venues in addition to public parks like Royal Victoria Park and busy shopping streets that also help to make the city a focal point for retail recruitment.

Bath is also a prominent media and publishing centre. The local newspaper, the Bath Chronicle, has been published since 1760, and Future Publishing Ltd is also based here. Indeed, many creative companies have now been set up in the city, as have firms specialising in web and software development, which routinely recruit staff among graduates of local universities. The University of Bath, for example, is one of the UK's most prestigious institutions, with strengths in education, engineering, design, science and management, while the modern Bath Spa University offers strong opportunities in English, History and biological sciences.

These universities join the NHS as among Bath's key public sector recruiters. But sporting talent may also be drawn to this city, thanks to the presence of the Bath rugby union team, Bath City Football Club and Bath Cricket Club, as well as the various University of Bath sports teams that compete under the banner of TeamBath. Manufacturing is not as prominent within Bath's economy as it was in the heyday of such firms as Stothert and Pitt, although staff recruitment does still take place in this sector, as it also increasingly does in financial services among such companies as London & Country Mortgages, as well as in logistics and management, where Helphire Group Plc is a significant name.

Although these aforementioned companies are not necessarily recruiting at present, there remain many more opportunities around this enchanting city for employers and jobseekers alike, with recruitment agencies like Webrecruit (http://www.webrecruit.co.uk) continually helping to match local firms to the right talent.
