Are you protecting Your Employees by Providing Manual Handling Awareness Training?

The lifting and lowering of heavy duty objects may be an imperative part of many companies' everyday operations, but such manual labour is also a frequent cause of injury to the back or other parts of the body - potentially costing your business many valuable man hours due to absence from work.  Howlett Health and Safety Services provide a highly interactive and tutor-led manual handling awareness training.

This is the course that organisations should enquire about if they wish to appropriately educate their employees on effective manual handling techniques to utilise at work. On average, manual handling activities have been linked to more than a third of all work-related injuries reported annually to the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) that result in employees taking at least three days off work - with sprains and strains to the back accounting for most of these injuries.

A manual handling task can be defined as one that necessitates the transport or support of a load, whether by hand or bodily force. Such a task could involve the lifting, putting down, pushing, carrying or moving of such a load. Employers whose businesses require the manual handling of loads should be aware of the specific responsibilities in this area as set down in The Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992 (as amended).

In particular, duty-holders should also be aware of the requirements of Regulation 10 and 13 of The Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999, which require that employers provide information, instruction and training to their workers. The training must specifically relate to the manual handling tasks that are being undertaken that potentially pose a risk of injury.

There are four key areas relating to manual handling that particularly need to be addressed through training that aims to provide employees with the right level of information and instruction. These four areas are covered in Howlett Health and Safety Services' own manual handling awareness training they are; the task, load, working environment and individual capability.

Register now for the manual handling awareness training of Howlett Health and Safety Services, and your own employees can be extensively educated in this area across such modules as What is Manual Handling?, Key requirements of the Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992 (as amended), Safe Handling, Learning Safe Handling Habits, Practical Manual Handling Solutions and Use of Mechanical Aids.

Taken together, such training elements ensure the best possible protection of your employees when they are called upon to execute any of the complete range of common manual handling tasks. Contact Howlett Health and Safety Services today for more information.
