The
range of fire alarms, fire extinguishers and smoke
vent systems available at UK-FP (http://www.uk-fp.co.uk/) are all sold with
three things in mind – quality, value and of course, safety. In fact everything
we do as a company is geared towards safety and value for money. And safety at
work is an ever increasing concern for employers. If you’re a family run
business that truly cares about your staff or a large scale industrial company
that needs to comply with ever more stringent legislation, implementing safety
strategies is a key consideration for any well managed firm.
The
Health and Safety Executive’s website states that in the period 2011/2012 1.1
million people were suffering from a work-related illness, 27 million working
days were lost due to work related illness and workplace injury and 173 workers
were killed at work. Falls from height remain the most common cause of
workplace fatality. Whilst the HSE doesn’t list statistics for 2011/2012, in
2008/2009 there were 35 fatalities, 4654 major injuries and a further 7065
injuries that caused the injured person to be off work for over 3 days or more,
due to a fall from height.
Of
course there are regulations in place to protect workers who are vulnerable to
falling from height. As part of the Regulations, dutyholders must
ensure:
·
all work at height is properly planned and
organised
·
those involved in work at height are
competent
·
the risks from work at height are assessed,
and appropriate work equipment is selected and used
·
the risks of working on or near fragile
surfaces are properly managed
·
the equipment used for work at height is
properly inspected and maintained
And crucially dutyholders must:
·
avoid work at height where possible, for
example doing the work from ground level
·
use work equipment or other measures to
prevent falls, where work at height cannot be avoided
·
use work equipment or other measures to
minimise the distance and consequences of potential falls, where the risk
cannot be eliminated
One easy way to reduce the risks posed by working from height is to
avoid it wherever possible. At UK-FP our fire products ranges also include no climb
products that can eliminate the need for ladders and platforms. Along with the
greater safety this gives the user, it also assists in accessing hard to reach
areas as well as greatly reducing the disruption caused by erecting platforms
and ladders and cordoning them off when working in occupied areas where people
are constantly passing. And not only that, no climb products drastically reduce
mandatory test times and therefore can dramatically reduce man-hours and costs.
Included in our range are battery batons and battery chargers, telescopic and
extension poles, mains heat detector testers and smoke detector test heads.
Visit
our website to discover the whole range. We’ve got a great selection of no
climb products that will save you time and money and help keep your employees
safe. Here at UK-FP (http://www.uk-fp.co.uk/),
it’s what we do.
