Mobile sales expected to gain prominence in 2014

For those in regular need of Internet fulfilment services, the IMRG e-Retail Survey April 2014 makes intriguing reading. 50 senior ecommerce professionals - including Managing Directors, Marketing Directors, CEOs and Heads of Ecommerce - were quizzed by email in March on subjects including sales growth forecast, international expansion plans, Click & Collect, international delivery, mobile commerce and customer retention strategies.

Key findings from the survey that will interest Internet fulfilment clients included the expectations of one in 10 retailers that by the end of this year, mobile will be responsible for more than 50 per cent of their online sales. In addition, international delivery is now offered by nine out of 10 fashion retailers, while Click & Collect is now available from two thirds (67 per cent) of multichannel retailers, compared to 54 per cent last October.

Also of interest in the survey findings for clients of Internet fulfilment services were the heightened retailer expectations for online sales growth over the coming year. Positive year-on-year growth in sales was anticipated by nearly all polled merchants, with predictions of particularly significant sales growth - more than 20 per cent - being made by 42 per cent of respondents.
