There's
little room for doubt that IYLO in West Croydon
has experienced a fair number of setbacks and false dawns in its life to date,
as well-documented in the local media. On two occasions in recent years,
construction has had to be brought to a halt, first when funding source HBOS
went into administration in 2009, and then following the entrance into
administration of the original construction company in 2011.
On
both occasions, however, IYLO in West Croydon proved to have a new life, and
there's no question that much like Croydon and its residents, the building has
gained from its worst experiences. Construction continues apace for a 2015 completion
date, with the good news being that truly secure funding sources are now in
place. This is not to suggest that the original owners of the site should be
blamed for its initial difficulties - after all, hardly anyone could foresee
the global financial crisis that so suddenly made credit so difficult to get
hold of in the late 2000s.
The
credit crunch sent many a well-prepared building project off track, but now,
with the wider economy staging a recovery of greater sustainability than has
been seen for many a year, the one-time IYLO in West Croydon is finally ready
to complete its own protracted race to the finish line. Indeed, it has even
acquired a new name for the occasion, ISLAND, with this moment also giving even
the most critical observers of the original IYLO ample opportunity to focus
once again on the building's considerable strengths and promise, rather than
its well-publicised calamities.
It's
easy to forget amid the harsh media glare, after all, that ISLAND is not only
an elegant-looking 20-storey tower from the outside, but on the inside, also
offers all of the trappings of the most sophisticated 21st century living in
London... all for a price tag that is becoming increasingly rare in a city with
such spiralling rents. Here is a stunning opportunity to begin to enjoy a
refined London lifestyle as the surrounding area, Croydon, is regenerated to
match.
Although
an unsung area, Croydon has always had many strengths, from its rich shopping
opportunities and burgeoning financial centre to generous amenities and stellar
transport links to the wider capital. It, like the former IYLO in West Croydon,
has had its fair share of setbacks to recover from, but now, with developments
like what will be Europe's largest shopping mall opening in close vicinity to
ISLAND (http://www.islandcroydon.com)
in 2017, it can look forward to the near future with a confidence unimagined
just a few short years ago. Don't miss this chance to join ISLAND on what will
easily be the most successful leg of its journey to completion.
