The name ‘Thompson and Morgan’ is synonymous with quality and innovation; they are among the founding companies of the UK’s seed industry.  From their humble beginnings over 150 years ago in the garden of an Ipswich bakery, to their present huge online presence and award winning discoveries, they have proved themselves to be one of the best seeds companies in the world.

Back at the beginning of this company’s life, the owner William Thompson was considered an adventurer, specializing in unusual and rare plants coming from far flung exotic locations. He received the Victorian medal of honour from the Royal Horticultural Society and built up a reputation for introducing more species and varieties of flowers and plants to the gardening public than any other seed company. They produced their first seed catalogue in 1855 which it is still issued regularly today and have now produced a critically acclaimed definitive guide to germination entitled ‘The Germination Times’ which breaks down the processes of growing from seed, helping the reader get the most from their garden. Their plant breeding program has produced such award winning beauties as the cherry brandy coneflower which was the first ever red rudbeckia flower and the budleja buzz, a  pretty garden favourite which is also another world first.
